I sit by Ephraim—
He talks to me
through the trees
A fruit—
it falls to the ground,
melts through
my skin, porous
and glossy
“Do you desire
skin first
or muscle?”
He asks.
I plea for
the former.
I would
give anything
to have flesh
again before
I ask
for strength.
